From Bowling Green to Hot Springs is only 185 miles, so a ‘nice’ relaxing drive, stopping once and arriving at Catherine’s Landing just at 3:00 on a really warm afternoon. The site we chose was a back in to the lake, so we had to unhook the CR-V at the entrance – can’t reverse with the toad on. Easy, wide roads and site – so we were in fairly quickly, hooked up electric and water, levelled Arvey – slides out – done, we’re getting good at this. Putting…

I must admit I wasn’t looking forward to the trip from Gettysburg through Hagerstown and Cumberland to Morgantown in West Virginia. The road isn’t too steep but this was our first 5, 6 or 7% grade and some of them quite long. Uphill it’s just being patient while the transmissions drops down through 5th and 4th gear and keep an eye on the engine temperature. What goes up must come down, and that is a tad hairier, don’t overuse the brakes or they stop working, so choose 5th…

Our trip took us through Maryland and close to the nation’s capital – and wow did we know it with all the narrow lanes and stop ‘n start traffic, not a leisurely drive. The campsite at Artillery Ridge was open and easy to get in and out of, also just a few minutes from the battleground. On our first drive through Gettysburg we saw the balloon and I had to go up in it, dogs are not allowed so Connie ‘volunteered’ to stay on the ground. Another stop…

We arrived at the Williamsburg KOA and were allocated a site so uneven it was impossible to level ‘Arvey, so we asked to be moved to another site, which was a little better – only just. After walking the campground we realized that a high percentage of the sites were far from level. Williamsburg – what a place, full of old buildings, wide streets and some people in costume. What most people, including us, don’t realize is that it is a public place and unless you want to…

Once we left Navarre, we headed due east to another stop in Florida, we knew that Florida was long north to south, just didn’t realize how wide, west to east it was. Randi (GPS) decided to take us the scenic route, through heavy stop and go traffic in Destin and the coastal islands east of there through Miramar and Santa Rosa Beach communities – and lots and lots of stop lights. ‘Arvey, toad, Connie, Rusty and especially I do not like that kind of traffic. We tend not…
