After leaving Amsterdam we caught the train to The Hague, public transport in Holland is truly amazing – and punctual. We were staying at a hotel right next to the station so checked in, dropped off the luggage and took the number 1 tram to the beach at Scheveningen. We spent a short time in Amsterdam on the 2007 trip to Europe and after the Rijks Museum and other local sights decided to take a conducted bus tour that covered Volendam, Marken – a cheese factory and working windmill. This was a true tourist trip, included a clog making demonstration – we loved it. We flew into London Gatwick and waited for a flight to Brussels. Once there we caught the train to Brussels central and then changed to a train to Bruges (Brugge). It is so easy to travel around in Belgium without a car – so we did for a whole week. We stayed in an amazing penthouse apartment a short walk from the Grote Markt in Bruges.
