The next leg – a new adventure

If you’ve followed our trails over the last few months you may have read about our 7 week trip in ‘Arvey. There was a purpose behind such a long trip and a question – could we do this full time?

The answer was a resounding ‘YES’ – so we have sold the house, all the furniture is to be sold in 2 weeks and we bought ‘Arvey 2’ – and then decided that he should just be called ‘Arvey.

We made a few decisions on that trip that had to be satisfied before we could travel around the US in a new ‘Arvey. It had to have a bath and a half, it does. There had to be a definite living area with a sensible layout for the TV, there is. Connie didn’t want a door at her seat – so we went for a gas (petrol for the UK readers) and the door is about a third of the way down – next to the 40 inch TV and the electric fire place – camping is really rough. It had to have a larger fridge – it does, twice as big, and a washer dryer as a bonus. The full bath is at the rear of ‘Arvey and the half bath mid-way. There is more storage in the basement or downstairs as Connie like to call it – so we did it.

‘Arvey is a 2014 Fleetwood Bounder 36E, 37 foot long based on a Ford chassis with a Triton V10 362 hp, with 4 speed automatic with overdrive, that’s all about the techie stuff. There are 3 flat panel TVs – 40 in the living area, 32 inch in the bedroom and a smaller one in a compartment outside. It has an HD over-the-air antenna and a satellite dish on the roof – told you camping is rough.

In 8 days we will leave the house so that the company selling the furniture can get everything ready for a 3 day estate sale. We didn’t for one minute think that is was going to be a walk in the park, little did we realize we had accumulated so much JUNK, the garage is half full of stuff we pulled from the attic – all for sale. We close on the house on October 31st – oops – that’s Halloween, so we have to stay fairly close until then, about 70 miles away, for the first month then we may travel south to Corpus area or the Brownsville area, much warmer.

‘Arvey is all set with an ‘office’, laptops, switch/hub, printer, 4G/3G Wi-Fi, so we think we have everything we need, we will find out in that first month while we’re still close to the house.

OK, that’s it for now, more as it happens, and it will.

  1. have a great time , how many miles to the US gallon ? assume all mail has to be electronic as you are of no fixed abode!

    • Hi Philip, On the diesel we were getting an average of 9.5 to the US gallon, not sure what the gas (petrol) one will do, we’re hoping for similar. Even a little less wouldn’t be an issue – regular gas is about 50 – 60 cents a gallon less than diesel. We have switched most of our mail to electronic, though there are still some ‘official’ documents that need to come through the post office so we have a mail service address that will forward mail as we request it – convenient really.
