Gettysburg – Pennsylvania

Our trip took us through Maryland and close to the nation’s capital – and wow did we know it with all the narrow lanes and stop ‘n start traffic, not a leisurely drive.

The campsite at Artillery Ridge was open and easy to get in and out of, also just a few minutes from the battleground. On our first drive through Gettysburg we saw the balloon and I had to go up in it, dogs are not allowed so Connie ‘volunteered’ to stay on the ground. Another stop was at Sachs covered bridge, rebuilt after floods damaged the original in 1996, a really tranquil area.

Gettysburg!!! What an experience, our guide Gary Kross was a mine of facts and figures; amazing detail and a real insight into the 3 day battle at Gettysburg, almost making it come alive as we drove through the cannon and monuments. The rest of this post is simply a collection of some images from our tour.
