Mexican Hats and Scissor Tails

For a few days the wildlife has been a little sparse, this morning all that changed. First sighting was the Egret at the side of the pond, looking very hopeful, until we got a little too close – I managed to get a picture of it taking flight.

Further along we passed the wild flower section, the Blue Bonnets are long gone but the Mexican Hat wildflowers are still showering us with the vivid reds and yellow. Then we arrived at the pond on the far left – the night heron was also looking for breakfast, just like the Egret – and just like the Egret took flight as we got too close. Again I was lucky to get a shot of it taking flight – amazing little Canon Power Shot ELPH 330 pocket camera:

The last pictures are of the weir with a Heron and a Duck seeming to have a conversation, and what I believe to be a Scissor-Tail Flycatcher, not a great picture but as it flew away the tail opened up – just like a pair of scissors. Maybe I need to invest in a better zoom camera – maybe.
