We decided that it is better (and more organized) if we tried to add a weekly digest of what we did or photographed in each category. Not all categories will appear each week, just as something interesting happens.

Carrollton sees more than its fair share of Egrets during Spring – in fact the City uses loud noise to dissuade them from nesting.

This group at the weir seem to be totally unconcerned wading in the shallows. A little further down stream another grouping, this time egrets and yellow-crowned night herons. I’ve seen quite a few of them around lately so they must be nesting somewhere nearby.

And then we came across a family grouping, the momma duck seeming to sun herself – I was certain that she was just keeping a wary eye on me and Rusty – I got too close and she ushered her babies into the safety of the reeds.

“Spring is sprung, the grass is ris
I wonder where the birdies is”

The first time I heard that it was more fitting to be from the Bronx:

“Spring is sprung, da grass is ris
I wonder where da boidies is”

While this is commonly attributed to Ogden Nash it seems to be anonymous and titled ‘Spring in the Bronx’.Spring is definitely here – with an occasional frosty morning still. The blue bonnets are out and our azaleas are in full bloom.  The Japanese Maple that we thought we’d lost last year has survived the really drastic trimming it received.
