The Mighty Guadalupe and Not so Mighty Colorado

Our recent excursion to the Texas Hill Country found us, once again, going down dirt roads to see what was at the end of the line. This time however, we were in our Honda CRV rather than the Acura TSX – makes a BIG difference on rough roads! So s-curve after s-curve, passing walking trail after walking trail, we finally see the river. We’ve had a drought in Texas for a number of years now and it has taken its toll on the Colorado River. You can see in the picture that it barely flows. We did, however, see fish jumping so the rod and reel had to come out! On our way in/out of the “recreation area” we saw an interesting  BBQ pit with a longhorn head made of steel mounted on the air vent! Yep, that’s Texas alright!

Unlike the Colorado River, the Guadalupe River – at least where we saw it, was full! We were exploring Kerrville, Texas and found a dog friendly patio [bringfido.com] at Billy Gene’s Restaurant where we had lunch and enjoyed looking upon the Guadalupe River. Kerrville wasn’t exactly what we expected; instead of a quaint downtown square we found a more modern atmosphere. Not bad, just not feeding our desire to walk around and see what we could find in the shops. From the porch of Billy Gene's Restaurant in Kerrville Texas

We had many reasons to take this RV trip at the end of February first of March: 1] get out of the north Texas cold, 2] see if The Hill Country was warmer and possibly a winter RV location if we become fulltime RVers, 3] practice using our new towing system with our new CRV and lastly, hang out with our Grandsons while our daughter and son-in-law went out for their 10th anniversary. Sadly, the cold and wet weather conditions hampered our efforts to fish with the boys and enjoy more of the outdoors.  While we didn’t achieve getting out of the cold wet weather, we did like our new towing system and spending a couple of days with the kids was the best!
