Late February walks and sightings

There hasn’t really been a lot to report lately. We were away for a week in the ‘frozen’ Texas Hill Country – it’s supposed to be a little warmer down there – we got frozen rain one night!! What crazy weather we’ve had for the last few weeks. More from Connie on that trip soon.

At home the ducks are still swimming in circles, the fishermen are still poised for breakfast, though very few sightings of other wildlife. The woodpeckers are still announcing their availability, so are the Mocking Birds. I keep hearing the sound of the Red Cardinals – but until this morning they managed to stay out of sight. The squirrels are active right now – and curious.

There is a really unusual stand of young trees, seeming to surround the larger tree in the middle, and then there are the ‘scary’ trees, would be totally in place in a Hitchcock movie.

The creek is flowing quite happily behind the ponds, that’s where the street gets its name ‘Crooked Creek’. This time of year is about the only time you can really see parts of the creek.
