Georgetown through Thanksgiving

We’re nearly 2 months full time and currently a winter Texan or Snow Birding in Aransas Pass, near Corpus Christi. We spent 2 nights in Alvarado getting a couple of things fixed at the dealership then set off for Georgetown to spend a week near Michelle, Matt and the boys – Zach and Austin. The day before we left there we had lunch with the boys at their school and visited the book fare.

We arranged for the Escapees mail-service to send all of our mail to Michelle’s and picked it up on the last day – 3 pounds of mail, and it had a few checks in it – always good to see. Unfortunately it didn’t include the TxTag Toll Road stickers we’d applied for, so had no choice but to hope they will use the license plate information to apply to our account.

The trip wasn’t too bad, 5 hours at between 55 and 60 miles an hour, restricted to less than 65 because of the toad CR-V – up to 500 miles a trip and speed less than 65, ah well – we’ll get better miles to the gallon that way. We arrived at the Portobelo Village RV Park midafternoon and once we were in the site realized we had no satellite – a big tree was blocking the signal, the camp hosts and the owner found us another site but only until mid-December and in the meantime will work on finding another site for us.

We soon found our way to Port Aransas over the ferry, and discovered the huge beaches there and all down the coast to Mustang Island State Park, Rusty really loves the beach. He races around on the leash, stopping to sniff every piece of seaweed – we just wish we had a 30 foot leash; he’s hard to keep up with. He’s also claimed the RV dashboard as his day time resting place, sunning himself.

Thanksgiving was with us before we realized it, we had a Butterball turkey roast and Connie had worked up a great menu. She made cranberry sauce from scratch, together with a dressing – again from scratch, and then came the Brussel sprouts cooked in bacon fat, and then caramelized with brown sugar and a good balsamic – so very good.

So that’s all there is from sunny Aransas Pass on the Friday after Thanksgiving, planning on another trip to Mustang Island for a picnic this afternoon.
